AFRICAN AMERICAN NEWSPAPERS
1827-1998
Full text searchable newspaper covergage of approximately 270 U.S newspapers documenting the African American experience in Americafrom the early 19th century to the end of the 20th century.

ALT HEALTHWATCH
1984 - present
This database focuses on the many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated approaches to health care and wellness. It offers libraries full text articles for more than 180 international, and often peer-reviewed journals and reports. In addition, there are hundreds of pamphlets, booklets, special reports, original research and book excerpts. Alt HealthWatch provides in-depth coverage across the full spectrum of subject areas covered by complementary and alternative medicine. This database features indexing and abstracts going back as far as 1984, and full text going back as far as 1990.

CINAHL Plus (NURSING AND ALLIED HEALTH)

The Nursing and Allied Health (CINAHL) database provides authoritative coverage of the literature related to nursing and allied health. Publications of the American Nurses Association and National League for Nursing are indexed as well as selected journals, health care books, nursing dissertations, conference proceedings, standards of professional practice, educational software and audiovisual materials. Indexed areas covered include consumer health, biomedicine, and health librarianship. Of the 500 journals indexed more than 150 titles present citations with abstracts.

COMMUNICATION ABSTRACTS

Communication Abstracts includes abstracts of communication-related articles from 160 journals. Abstracts also cover reports, papers, and books from a variety of publishers, research institutions, and information sources from throughout the world. Coverage includes not only communication literature but also literature in other disciplines relevant to communication researchers. Major topics include general and mass communication; advertising; marketing; broadcasting; communication theory; interpersonal, intrapersonal, small group, and organizational communication; journalism; public opinion; public relations; radio; speech; and television.

COUNTRY WATCH

CountryWatch is a combination of textual and statistical sources on more than 190 countries. Lengthy Country Reviews give a complete historical, political, economic, investment, social, and environmental overview of each country. The DataWatch portion allows you to display, cross-tabulate and download numeric data about the countries. Country Wire provides access to full articles from 12 international news services. The Map Gallery supplies physical/political maps in a variety of sizes and formats. In addition, thematic maps cover a variety of cultural and economic subjects. The Forecast section is not part of our subscription.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE ABSTRACTS

Criminal Justice Abstracts contains comprehensive coverage of international journals, books, reports, dissertations, and unpublished papers on criminology and related disciplines. Prepared in cooperation with the Criminal Justice Collection of Rutgers University Library, it covers crime trends, crime prevention and deterrence, juvenile delinquency, juvenile justice, police, courts, punishment, and sentencing. The database contains indexes and summaries of international journal articles, books, and governmental and non-governmental reports on virtually any topic in criminal justice.

DISSERTATIONS & THESES (formerly ProQuest Digital Dissertations)

 Dissertations & Theses includes doctoral dissertations in all subject areas completed at U.S. accredited institutions. Some masters theses and foreign language dissertations are also included. Citations for dissertations published from 1980 forward include 350-word abstracts written by the author. Citations for master's theses from 1988 forward include 150-word abstracts. Most dissertations from 1997 forward include 24-page previews. Full text (PDF files) of UW-Madison dissertations as well as CIC (Committee on Institutional Cooperation) university dissertations from 1997 forward are available to UW-Madison students, faculty, and staff free of charge. Full text of non-CIC institutions are also increasingly available. Orders for complete dissertations may be placed online, but check MadCat first to see if they are owned on campus. Free interlibrary loan may also be a possibility.

Education Full Text indexes more than 400 English-language periodicals, yearbooks, and selected monographic series. It covers all levels of education. Feature articles are indexed, as are important editorials and letters to the editor, interviews, reviews of educational films, software reviews, critiques of theses, charts and graphs without text, and book reviews. Abstracts are included since 1994. Full-text articles have been added beginning with 1996.

ERIC - EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES INFORMATION CENTER

ERIC contains citations and abstracts of the international journal and report literature in education and related fields. Subjects include all aspects of education, including child development, classroom techniques, computer education, counseling and testing, administration, higher education, library science, and vocational and adult education. Sources include more than 980 journals, educational reports, project descriptions, curriculum guides, and dissertations. The complete texts of 90% of the document literature (ED numbers) are available in PDF format using the EDRS DOCUMENT LINK. They are also on microfiche at the CIMC (Center for Instructional Materials and Computing).

ETHNIC NEWSWATCH

Ethnic NewsWatch is a full-text collection of more than 200 newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press. Spanish language publications are presented in Spanish. The entire database is searchable in both English and Spanish.

FAMILY & SOCIETY STUDIES WORLDWIDE

Family & Society Studies Worldwide database (formerly Family Studies) is the electronic version of the indexes Inventory of Marriage and Family Literature and FAMILY (Australian Family & Society Abstracts). It indexes more than 1800 journals, books, chapters, newsletters, government documents, and dissertations. It covers the educational, medical, psychological and sociological aspects of family literature.

HAPI: HEALTH & PSYCHOSOCIAL INSTRUMENTS

HAPI is a database of evaluation and measurement tools designed to facilitate health and psychosocial studies. The measurement instruments available include questionnaires, checklists, index measures, rating scales, project techniques, tests, interview schedules, and a variety of other means of evaluation. The database currently contains more than 45,000 records.

HEALTH & WELLNESS RESOURCE CENTER

Provides health information for nursing and allied health students, as well as consumer health research. It combines indexing of approximately 205 periodicals, six reference books, and over 500 pamphlets; selective indexing for articles in approximately 1500 additional general interest titles; and full text for more than 150 periodicals, all reference books, and all pamphlets.

IIBP Full Text includes current and selective retrospective bibliographic citations and abstracts from more than 150 scholarly and popular journals, newspapers and newsletters from the United States, Africa and the Caribbean. In addition it includes full-text coverage of 40 core Black Studies periodicals from 1998 forward. Coverage is international in scope and multidisciplinary--spanning cultural and artistc, economic, historical, religious, social, and political issues of importance to the Black Studies discipline.

JSTOR is a full-text journal database which provides access more than 400 titles in the fields of African-American studies, anthropology, Asian studies, botany, ecology, economics, education, finance, history, language, literature, mathematics, music, philosophy, political science, population/demography, sociology, and statistics. Coverage begins with volume one of each title and continues to within 3 to 5 years of the most current issue, depending on the title. The "moving wall" represents the time period between the last issue available in JSTOR and the most recently published issue of a journal; it is specified by publishers in their license agreements with JSTOR . Graphs, photographs, and other images are included. UW-Madison Libraries have acquired the following JSTOR collections: Arts & Sciences I; Arts & Sciences II; Business; Ecology & Botany; General Science; Language & Literature; Music.

LEXISNEXIS ACADEMIC

LEXIS/NEXIS Academic Universe is an online service composed of approximately 5,000 legal, news, reference, and business sources, most full text. It includes international and U.S. newspapers, ethnic and regional news sources, magazines, wire services, newsletters, trade journals, company and industry analyst reports, and broadcast transcripts. Advertisements, obituaries, graphics, and non-local (syndicated) features are typically not included. Of particular interest are the New York Times, June 1980 -to date;The Wisconsin State Journal, 1992-to date; The Capital Times, 1992-to date; and The Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel, September 1995-to date. Years of coverage vary, but many sources begin with the late 1980's or early 1990's. Polls (from the Roper Center for Public Opinion) and the World Almanac are included in the Reference search category. See also ProQuest Newspapers.

MENTAL MEASUREMENTS YEARBOOK

The MMY contains descriptive information and full-text reviews of commercially published English-language tests. It covers more than 1850 standardized educational, personality, vocational aptitude, psychological, and related tests. Information provided about each test includes name, classification, author, publisher, price, time requirements, existence of validity and reliability data, score descriptions, intended populations, and critical reviews.

NEWSPAPER SOURCE PLUS
Newspaper Source Plus includes 1,520 full-text newspapers, providing more than 28 million full-text articles. The database contains comprehensive full text for major newspapers such as The New York Times (from January 1985 to present), The Boston Globe, The Christian Science Monitor, The Daily Mail (UK), The Irish Times (Ireland), The San Francisco Chronicle, The Sydney Morning Herald (Australia), The Times of London, The Toronto Star, USA Today, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, and others.

Public Affairs Information Service indexes more than 900 journals; books; government documents; statistical compilations; committee reports; directories; serials; reports of public, intergovernmental, and private organizations; and most other forms of printed literature from all over the world. Its subject matter covers public policy, social policy, and the social sciences in general. A brief note indicating content is sometimes included.

POPLINE (POPulation information onLINE)

The POPLINE database on reproductive health provides more than 300,000 citations with abstracts to scientific articles, reports, books, and unpublished reports in the field of population, family planning, and related health issues. It includes links to free, fulltext documents; the ability to limit your search to peer-reviewed journal articles; and many abstracts in French and Spanish.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COLLECTION

Professional Development Collection is designed particularly for professional educators including those in the field of social work. It provides full text for 750 journals and indexing and abstracting for 900 journals in education, social work, and allied disciplines. Over 350 of the included titles are peer reviewed. Full text articles are available in native (searchable) PDF or scanned in color.

PsycArticles

PsycARTICLES is a database of full text articles from more than 50 journals published by the American Psychological Association, the APA Educational Publishing Foundation, the Canadian Psychological Association, and Hogrefe & Huber. The database includes all material from the print journals with the exception of ads and editorial board lists. The PsycINFO index contains links in the citations to the full text articles in PsycARTICLES when available. Users can search by article title, author, keyword, or for terms and phrases in the full text of articles. Coverage varies from title to title but many titles have coverage from 1988 to the present.

PsycINFO (Psychological Abstracts)
1872 - to date (updated weekly)
PsycINFO, produced by the American Psychological Association, contains citations and abstracts of the world's literature in psychology and related subjects. Also included are links to full-text articles from APA journals. PsycINFO covers journal material of psychological relevance scanned from more than 1300 journal titles from more than 50 countries. Beginning with 1987, it also contains references to books, book chapters, and dissertations. Approximately 50% of the articles selected are published outside the United States; 10% are in a language other than English.

PUBMED
PubMed, developed by the National Library of Medicine (NLM), provides free access to MEDLINE, a database of more than 11 million bibliographic citations and abstracts from nearly 4,500 journals in the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, allied health, health care systems, and pre-clinical sciences. PubMed also contains links to the full-text versions of articles at participating publishers' Web sites. In addition, PubMed provides access and links to the integrated molecular biology databases maintained by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). These databases contain DNA and protein sequences, 3-D protein structure data, population study data sets, and assemblies of complete genomes in an integrated system. Additional NLM bibliographic databases, such as AIDSLINE, are being added to PubMed.

SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH NETWORK (SSRN)
Social Science Research Network (SSRN) is devoted to the rapid worldwide dissemination of social science research and is composed of a number of specialized research networks in each of the social sciences. The SSRN eLibrary consists of two parts: an Abstract Database containing abstracts on over 135,100 scholarly working papers and forthcoming papers and an Electronic Paper Collection currently containing over 105,400 downloadable full text documents in Adobe Acrobat pdf format.

Social Sciences Citation Index is a multidisciplinary index to more than 1400 journals spanning 50 social science disciplines. Every item of significance is listed: articles, reviews, letters, notes, corrections, and editorials. In addition to access by author, title, and institution, it is also possible to search by cited authors and to find articles sharing one or more cited reference. Social Sciences Full Text indexes more than 415 key periodicals in the fields of economics, politics and foreign affairs, public administration, public health, sociology, criminology, environmental and urban studies, psychology and anthropology. Feature articles are indexed, as are interviews, obituaries, biographies, and book reviews. There are abstracts beginning with 1994. Full-text articles from 112 journals have been added beginning with 1995.

SOCIAL SERVICES ABSTRACTS
CSA Social Services Abstracts provides bibliographic coverage of current research focused on social work, human services, and related areas, including social welfare, social policy, and community development. The database abstracts and indexes over 1,300 serials publications and includes abstracts of journal articles and dissertations, and citations to book reviews.

SOCIAL WORK ABSTRACTS PLUS

Social Work Abstracts Plus contains two databases. Social Work Abstracts contains citations and abstracts to articles from more than 450 journals in the areas of the social work profession, theory and practice, areas of service, social issues, and social problems. The Register of Clinical Social Workers is a directory of clinical social workers in the U.S.

SocINDEX
1895 -
SocINDEX with Full Text includes full text for 397 "core coverage" sociology journals dating back to 1908 and 150 "priority coverage" journals. It also includes full text for more than 720 books and 6,743 conference papers. Abstracts for more than 800 journals are available back to 1895. In addition, SocINDEX with Full Text features more than 10,000 Author Profiles covering the most prolific, most cited, and most frequently searched for authors in the database. The database encompasses all sub-disciplines of sociology and closely related areas of study, including abortion, criminology & criminal justice, demography, ethnic & racial studies, gender studies, marriage & family, political sociology, religion, rural & urban sociology, social development, social psychology, social structure, social work, socio-cultural anthropology, sociological history, sociological research, sociological theory, substance abuse & other addictions, violence and many others.

SOCIOLOGICAL ABSTRACTS

The Sociological Abstracts database indexes and abstracts 2,000 worldwide journals in sociology. Relevant dissertations have been added since 1986. Also included is the Social Planning Policy and Development Abstracts (SOPODA) database, which covers applied sociology journal article abstracts since 1980. Formerly sociofile.

SUSTAINABILITY SCIENCE ABSTRACTS
1995-present (Updated monthly)
Covers all aspects of sustainable development, human population and demography topics, as well as societal issues involving natural resource management and conservation of natural resources. In addition to journal articles, the index icludes papers, reports, books, conference proceedings and hard-to-find gray literature.

WEB OF KNOWLEDGE (Web of Science)
The Web of Knowledge is a combination of three databases: Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Arts & Humanities Citation Index. It indexes more than 8,000 peer-reviewed journals, providing complete bibliographic data and author abstracts. Every item of significance is listed: articles, reviews, letters, notes, corrections, and editorials. In addition to access by author, title, and institution, it is also possible to search by cited authors and to find articles sharing one or more cited reference. It is possible to search the three databases independently or in any combination. Live links to electronic journals with full text are included for some publishers.

WOMEN AND SOCIAL MOVEMENTS IN THE UNITED STATES

Intended to serve as a resource for students and scholars of U.S. history and U.S. women's history, Women and Social Movements seeks to advance scholarly debates and understanding at the same time that it makes the insights of women's history accessible to teachers and students at universities, colleges, and high schools. This resource is divided into document projects that interpret and present materials, many of which are not otherwise available online. Each document project poses an interpretive question and provides a collection of documents that address the question. Documents may be searched individually, cross-searched by collection, or across the entire database. Formats include audio-video, images and Websites as well as printed materials.
